I once faced the rest of my life in prison and served nearly a decade in some of America's worst penitentiaries where inmates were murdered with prison-made machetes. While locked in a cell and not knowing if or when I would ever leave, I reflected on my life and decided to abandon crime and educate myself. I read eighteen hours a day and taught myself the writer's craft by reading the world's greatest classics while examining each line, sentence, and paragraph for style and structure. I also studied law and reversed my own conviction from prison while helping plenty of other inmates get relief in the courts. Before being released, I was asked by the prison administration what I was planning to do with myself when I got out. By then, I had read thousands of books, had taught myself the writer's craft, and had written a novel; I told them that I was going to become an international bestselling author. Everyone at the table broke into hysterical laughter. Today, I am an international bestselling author and my books have been translated into twenty languages. I've also created, wrote, produced, and hosted a series for Discovery Channel about life inside maximum security prisons around the world. I hope you enjoy my books and documentaries.
